Ear wax removal is performed by microsuction. This is a safe and effective method for wax removal. The treatment involves very gentle suction of ear wax through a narrow sterile tube which is inserted into the ear canal by the clinician.
With the use of high magnification loupes, the clinician can constantly monitor the process by keeping the wax and the surrounding ear canal in their view at all times. This makes the experience safer and more controllable than other removal methods.
Before commencement of treatment, the clinician will assess your suitability for this procedure via a brief health questionnaire and by examining your ears with an otoscope and/or an otoscope camera. The process will be fully explained to you and any concerns raised dealt with to make the treatment safe and comfortable.
In preparation for ear wax removal treatment, it is recommended that a pharmaceutical grade olive oil such as EAROL be used 5-6 days prior to your treatment. (Please use in accordance with the manufactures instructions and note: If you experience any reaction whilst using olive oil such as itching, swelling, dizziness, discomfort or any other adverse reactions, it is recommended that you stop immediately and seek medical advice).
The Olive oil should help to soften the wax and reduce the chances of a return visit due to lack of extraction.
IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE AVOID USING OLIVE OIL IF YOU HAVE:
• A perforated eardrum or history of perforated eardrum
• Pain or discomfort in your ear/s
• Discharge from the ear/s
• An ear infection or suspected ear infection. Also, a history of ear infections.
• Associated ALLERGIES or intolerance to olive oil.
• Past or recent SURGERY related to your ears.
Any associated symptoms or pre-existing conditions that preclude you from using of olive oil.
*It's always best to consult with a healthcare professional, such as an audiologist or your doctor, before using olive oil prior to ear wax removal, if you have any concerns or pre-existing conditions.
