Osteopathy is a manual therapy which employs deep tissue massage, joint mobilisation & spinal manipulation to treat pain and dysfunction in the joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves of the body. A key principal of Osteopathy is that the body is a unit. This means that every part of the body will affect and be affected by all other parts. Therefore, its holistic approach not only treats the area of pain but also addresses other poorly functioning parts of the body which may be contributing to a person’s problem or preventing its resolution.
Another key principal is that the body, given the right circumstances has an inherent capacity to heal and repair itself. Thus, Osteopaths always aim to remove any obstacles to the healing process. Consequently, home stretching and / or strengthening exercises and advice on posture, lifestyle & diet are usually given to facilitate recovery.
